Principal All Call 10/5/20
Posted on 10/05/2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I can’t believe we are into October already. There are several upcoming events for this week and at the end of October.

This Thursday, October 8th is Parent Teacher Virtual Interim Conference Night. On Wednesday morning  an all call was sent with the Google Forms to use to sign up for conferences with teachers. You will be sent a Google Meet link to use for the virtual conference. If you need any assistance, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Available conference times are posted in their Google Classrooms.

Your child’s interim will be posted in their Home Access Center. All students can open this in their APS portal. Once interims are completed, I will send directions for accessing. Most older students already know how to view their current grades and assignments in Home Access (HAC). I am also attaching a Parent Grading Communication document. This will explain more about grades.

Here are other important reminders:

  1. Make sure your child is taking the best care of their chromebook.   No food or drinking near the chromebook, be careful when inserting and removing the charging adapter and not placing anything on the keyboard (closing lid with items inside) are the most important to remember.
  2. Here is the Student Handbook for the 20-21 school year.
  3. Complete the APS district parent survey that was sent to you on Friday morning . The district needs everyone to complete in order to begin our reopening plans. Here are the links. Information Regarding Potential Options for Families     and    Parent Survey.
  4. Be sure to review the attached PTO October Newsletter. Yes! We are planning on a Reverse Harvest Parade similar to our end of the year parade. Here are the Department of Health Halloween Celebration Guidelines- please review these guidelines we must follow for our harvest parade on October 23rd.
  5. Tomorrow, October 5th,  begins the district’s After-Hours Support Center. The center will be staffed with high-quality educators, tutors and other professionals that will use Google Meet and phone calls to assist students and families in a variety of services including: K-12 tutoring and academic support, family support services, social-emotional urgent support, technology and Google Classroom troubleshooting. Hours are Monday-Thursday - 4-7 p.m. and Saturday - 10 a.m. -2 p.m. It will be closed on holidays. For more information, visit akronschools.com.
  6. Just a reminder that your child has a Google Classroom for each teacher they have including art, music and gym. Open each one and see the resources inside under Classwork. All teachers are also posting communication in the stream of their classrooms.

One final announcement is for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students who have Mrs. Fischer for Physical Education class on Mondays and Tuesdays. She is practicing fitness training with her students. Classes begin with stretching, warm-ups and then she uses weight lifting. She wants students to use something that is safe and low weight around the house. She is recommending 2 filled water bottles or 2 soup cans. There is no need for you to purchase anything. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Fischer at wfischer@apslearns.org

You are doing a fantastic job at home, parents and guardians. I know that there are times where being online and technology can be very stressful. Everything can be problem solved. Just be patient and we will help you. Just remember, I am here for you and so is our new Assistant Principal Mrs. Rogers. Please email me with any questions at imcintos@apslearns.org or call Ritzman at 330-761-7903. The secretary is usually there between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Remember we are going through a transition of secretarial staff. Please hang in there and don't give up. We can continue to have success!

Thank you for all you do to support your child and Ritzman Staff.

Love Ya!

Mrs. M
