Principal's All Call 2-8-21
Posted on 02/07/2021

Dear Ritzman Family,

I am sending the all call early so that I don’t interrupt the Superbowl later. There are a couple of upcoming and ongoing events I want to share with you.

This week, there is NO SCHOOL for staff and students on Friday, February 12th. The following Monday, February, 15th is President’s Day and there is NO SCHOOL for staff and students. So… after this Thursday, your child will have a long 4 days weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday)!

Next, here is the long awaited Annual Math Night Invite. This year, we are using a “I LOVE MATH” theme with our virtual math night on February 18th from 5:30-7:30pm. Parents and Guardians will be given a Google site code to join for the night of the event to meet with teachers, ”Live”. One hour prior to math night from 4:30 until 5:30pm, parents and guardians will be given resources for the event by driving through our parking lot to receive the materials and refreshments. Review the attached math night flyer and be sure to RSVP using this Google form so we can prepare for you and your family.

Stay in the Game! Did your child tell you that you must call the school if they will be absent any part of the current school day? Well, I have good news and better news. The Good News is that we have 5 Ritzman Students who have made improvements in their daily attendance. The even Better News is that Mr. Canavan, our P.E. teacher in the mornings is challenging all students to “Stay in the Game”. He is keeping a scorecard for each homeroom. All that students need to do is show up for school on time, everyday. He has special Cleveland Brown’s prizes and other incentives he will be distributing weekly for students in homerooms that have the highest scorecard. Winners will be announced weekly on morning announcements.

Finally, teachers will be reaching out to individual students who are not making progress in reading and math at this time in the year. Teachers and their families will discuss their child’s current progress and the steps that need to be taken to get their child on track. I have emailed and sent a letter to these families, already. Be on the lookout for this important letter in your email and U S mail. It is also important to make sure your child is practicing reading at home and getting on track. I am attaching a Virtual Reading Library for you and your child to use at home. Check it out!

Here are a few other reminders….

  1. Did your child earn an A or B on their I-Ready assignment in HAC? Teachers are giving I-Ready as an assignment to complete and then giving a grade the number of minutes spent on their pathway weekly and the passage rate from their lessons. Is your child completing at least 45 minutes in both reading and math I-Ready pathways?
  2. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately as in school daily with camera on. Food and drink should be consumed during breaks and lunch. Thank you for following these expectations.
  3. APS Plus After-Hours Support Center - is open. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 4pm-7pm, and Saturdays, 10am-2pm; closed holidays. Review the attached flyer or vist akronschools.com for phone number and Google Meet information.

  1. Chromebooks! Make sure your children are taking good care of their Chromebooks. Parents and guardians will be charged for damages.
  2. Ellet Baseball and Softball Flyer

In the meantime, Be Safe Wherever you are watching the Superbowl today. If you need anything, please email me with any questions at imcintos@apslearns.org or call Ritzman at 330-761-7903.

Love Ya Much!
